Born on July 2, 1866. After studying in Germany, he became an assistant professor at his alma mater, the Imperial University. He became Japan's first doctor of forestry with his book "Japanese Forest Plant Zone Theory," and became a professor at Tokyo Imperial University in 1900. He designed parks and gardens around Japan, including Hibiya Park and Meiji Shrine. He passed away on January 29, 1952, at the age of 85. He was born in Musashi, Saitama County.
