Face Enshi - Gan Enshi

Japanese:
Face Enshi - Gan Enshi

A poet from the Southern Song Dynasty in China. His pen name was Yannen. His domicile was Linyi (Shandong Province), and he moved south during his great-grandfather's generation. He rose from poverty to witness the transition between the Jin and Song dynasties, and rose to the position of Jin Zi Guanglu Daifu during the reign of Emperor Xiaowu. He was fond of alcohol and had an arrogant nature, which led to him being demoted. He was friends with Tao Yuanming in his youth, and is known for writing "A Testament to the Tao Zhengshi" (included in "Wen Xuan") to mourn his death. His style of poetry is beautiful and refined, and he is called "Yan Xie" along with Xie Lingyun. Bao Zhao commented on the two of them, "Xie's poetry is natural and lovable, but your poetry is like carving." He lived a long life and became a leading figure in the literary world. Together with Lingyun and Bao Zhao, he is called one of the "Three Great Poets of the Yuan Jia Period."
