Ooba
〘Noun〙 A type of bird feather. It accounts for the majority of the feathers that cover the body of an adult bird. It consists of a shaft that extends from the stalk that is attached to the skin, and two vanes (valves) on either side of it. Barbs are lined up on the left and right of the shaft, and the barbules lined up on the left and right of each barb hook together with hooks, forming a vane as a whole. Also called ( shi ). 〘名〙 鳥類の羽毛の一種。成鳥の体を包む羽毛の大部分を占めるもの。皮膚に植わる羽柄からのびる羽軸と、その左右の羽板(羽弁)からなる。羽軸の左右に羽枝が並び、その羽枝の左右に並ぶ小羽枝が鉤突起で互いに引っ掛かって、全体として羽板を形成する。(し)ともいう。本羽(ほんう)。正羽。
