A woman in Greek mythology. Daughter of King Ageanor of Telos and Telepatha, she has two sisters, Cadmus and Kirix. Zeus, the great god, was moved by Europa, the most beautiful of the sisters, and approached her in the form of a white bull. Europa was afraid at first, but when she playfully mounted the bull, it suddenly galloped across the sea and landed on the island of Crete. The two had sex near the spring of Gortyn, and Europa gave birth to Minos, Rhadamanthys, and Sarpedon. Zeus gave her the bronze man Talos, a hunting dog, and a javelin. Later, she became the wife of King Asterion of Crete and adopted three children. After her death, she was deified, and the bull became the constellation Taurus. It is also said that the area where Europa arrived riding on the bull became Europe after her name.
