This valley is located in the northeastern part of Kagawa Prefecture, almost in the center of Shodo Island. It is between Shihozashi (777 meters) and Hoshigajoyama (817 meters), the island's highest peak, and stretches 8 kilometers east to west and 4 kilometers north to south. Volcanic rocks such as granite, andesite, and breccia tuff have been differentially eroded over the years, creating a spectacular view of strangely shaped rocks such as Matsutake Rock, Eboshi Rock, Nishikibyobu, and Gyokujunpo, and is colored by the fresh greenery of early summer and the autumn leaves of autumn. It has been designated a national scenic spot, and the number of tourists has increased dramatically since the opening of the ropeway in 1963 and the toll road (now free) in 1970, the Kankakei Park Line. The name Kankakei is said to come from a story in which Emperor Ojin climbed the valley by attaching a hook to a rock, and it was called Kagikake or Kankake. It was named Kankakei by Confucian scholar Fujisawa Nankaku (1842-1920) at the beginning of the Meiji period. Nearby are Shihosashi, where slab-like joints of andesite are well developed, and the ruins of Hoshigajo Castle, and the entire area is included in the Setonaikai National Park.
