The name of a rhythmic style in Noh. It is opposed to Hira-nori and Naka-nori. Basically, the lyrics in four-four rhythms (8 characters) are distributed to one phrase in eight beats (yatsubyoshi). In other words, one character is assigned to one beat. The style goes like this: "So-no-to-ki-yo-shi-tsu-ne-,-suko-shi-mo-sa-wa-ga-zu-" (Funa-Benkei), but when there are many characters, a special rhythmic distribution is used called Hashiri. Taiko drums are always added, and are used in scenes where gods, demons, and spirits appear as after-jite, or before and after dances, to create a relaxed effect. The small sections of jiuta sung to this rhythm are called nori-ji. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
