A general term for silicate minerals whose basic building blocks are _SiO4 tetrahedra, in which Al replaces a significant amount of the Si at the tetrahedral positions. Examples include feldspar, mica, zeolite, and clay minerals. Feldspar minerals, which are representative of this group, are important rock-forming minerals that are composed mainly of O, Si, and Al, the most abundant elements in the earth's crust, and are said to account for about 60% of the earth's crust volume. In silicate minerals, there is a tendency for the Al/Si ratio to increase as the degree of polymerization of _SiO4 tetrahedra increases.

SiO₄四面体を基本構成単位とするケイ酸塩鉱物のうち，四面体位置のSiの相当量をAlが置換している鉱物の総称。長石，雲母，沸石，粘土鉱物などが該当する。地殻中に最も豊富に存在する元素のO,Si,Alを主成分とし，その代表格である長石族鉱物は，地殻体積の約60％を占めるといわれる重要な造岩鉱物である。ケイ酸塩鉱物ではSiO₄四面体の重合度が増すにつれAl/Si比が大きいものが出現するという傾向がある。
