Japanese: テナガコガネ(手長黄金) - テナガコガネ（英語表記）Cheirotonus macleayi

An insect of the family Scarabaeidae in the order Coleoptera. The thorax is dark green, the elytra are black-brown with scattered yellowish-brown markings. As the name suggests, males have remarkably long front legs, and both edges of the thorax are densely covered with long yellow hairs. Large individuals exceed 60 mm in body length. It is distributed from Assam, Sikkim, and Bhutan through China to Taiwan. The Taiwanese beetle is called the Taiwan long-armed scarab beetle C. m . formosanus . It is distributed in the central mountainous region of Taiwan, where it gathers around tree sap and flies to lights. The larvae feed on rotting wood such as camphor and grow, pupating in the rotting wood and emerging as adults.

甲虫目コガネムシ科の昆虫。胸部は暗緑色，上翅は黒銅色で黄褐色の斑紋を散在する。雄は名のように前脚が著しく長く，胸部の両縁に黄色の長毛を密生する。大型の個体は体長60mmを超す。アッサム，シッキム，ブータンから中国を経て台湾まで分布する。台湾産のものはタイワンテナガコガネC.m.formosanusといわれる。台湾の中部山地に分布し，樹液に集まるほか，灯火に飛来する。幼虫はクスなどの朽木を食べて成育し，朽木の中で蛹化（ようか），成虫となって出現する。
