...During the Shoo to Kanbun period (1652-73), in Hanyu Village, Shimousa Province (present-day Mizukaido City, Ibaraki Prefecture), a jealous and ugly woman named Rui was killed by her husband Yoemon in the Kinugawa River. The family was haunted by her grudge, but the tale of the Hozoji Temple karma, in which she was freed by the prayers of the pilgrim Yuten, spread to the cities with the opening of the Hozoji Temple and the publication of the Tale of the Liberation of the Dead. This tale was first adapted into kabuki in the play Ozumo Fujito Genji (1731). After Datekurabe Okuni Kabuki (1778), it was often included in period dramas that dramatized the Date War, and the plot in which the heroine sees herself in the mirror and realizes she is ugly, and then becomes jealous of her husband's loyalty to her master, Princess Utagata, and is killed, which established the Ruimono lineage. ...

…承応～寛文期(1652‐73)，下総国羽生（はにゆう）村(現，茨城県水海道市)で，嫉妬に狂った醜婦の累が鬼怒川で夫与右衛門に殺され，怨念は一族にたたるが，廻国中の祐天上人の祈念で解脱するという法蔵寺因縁譚が，法蔵寺の開帳や《死霊解脱物語》の出版で都会に流布した。これが《大角力藤戸源氏（おおずもうふじとげんじ）》(1731)で初めて歌舞伎化された。《伊達競阿国戯場（だてくらべおくにかぶき）》(1778)以後は，たいてい伊達騒動を脚色した時代物の世界に繰り込まれるとともに，そのヒロインが鏡を見て自分を醜婦と知り，主人歌形姫に対する夫の忠義に嫉妬し殺される段取りが，累物の系脈を作った。…
