…Italian revolutionary. Born to a noble family in the Kingdom of Sardinia, he became a soldier and participated in the constitutional revolution in Piedmont in 1821. When the revolution failed, he fled to Spain and then to Malta. After the July Revolution of 1830, he moved to France and cooperated with Mazzini, becoming a central member of the Young Italy. After the failure of the Savoy expedition in 1834, he moved to Switzerland and then to Brussels, where he committed suicide by jumping into a canal in despair and poverty.
