When the revolution failed, he fled to Spain and then to Malta. After the July Revolution of 1830, he moved to France and cooperated with Mazzini, becoming a central member of the Young Italy. After the failure of the Savoy expedition in 1834, he moved to Switzerland and then to Brussels, where he committed suicide by jumping into a canal in despair and poverty.
