In 1950, the year after the Soviet Union successfully tested an atomic bomb, British atomic physicist Klaus Fuchs, who had been involved in the United States' atomic bomb project during World War II, was arrested as a Soviet spy. This incident triggered a manhunt in the United States for Fuchs' accomplices, and in the same year Julius Rosenberg (1918-53) and his wife Ethel R. (1915-53) were arrested for aiding in the leaking of atomic secrets to the Soviet Union. …
