Printmaker. Born in Yokohama. Graduated from Aoyama Gakuin Senior High School in 1916 (Taisho 5), he traveled the following year to Canada, Alaska, and America for over a year. Became an English teacher at Tochigi Prefectural Utsunomiya Junior High School in 1921, and started working as a woodblock artist around this time. Became a member of the Japan Creative Print Association in 1927 (Showa 2), and also exhibited at the Kokugakai exhibition, becoming a member of the same association in 1967. He showed a unique style of work that was in keeping with the Bunmei-Kaika style and Nanban exotic tastes. In 1949 (Showa 24), he received the 1st Tochigi Prefecture Cultural Merit Award. He also published many small woodblock prints from the beginning of the Showa era, including "Aohige" and "Egeresu Iroha."
