...He was a yoriki (police officer) at the Higashimachi Magistrate's Office in Osaka during the late Edo period and a scholar of Yangmingism. He committed suicide in February 1837 after starting a rebellion in Osaka. His father was Heihachiro Takataka and his mother was from the Onishi clan. There are two theories about his birthplace: Tenma in Osaka and Mima County in Awa. He lost his parents at a young age and followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, who was also a yoriki. His childhood name was Bunnosuke, and he was called Heihachiro when he grew up, and his given name was Masataka, later Goso. His pen names were Koki and Shiki, and after he retired from his position as a yoriki he was called Rensai or Chusai. During his time as a yoriki, he was highly valued by Higashimachi Magistrate Takai Sanenori and achieved the following three major achievements, earning him a reputation for his honesty. For example, in 1827 (Bunsei 10), he suppressed the Christian-like religion of Toyoda Mitsugi and others, in 1829 he executed Yuge Shinuemon, the chief deputy of the Nishimachi Magistrate's Office, who had committed fraud in cooperation with four hinin (outcasts), and in 1830 he exiled several dozen monks who had broken their precepts.
