Field rotation - Tahata Rinkan

Japanese: 田畑輪換 - たはたりんかん

It is also called "denbatari-rinkan." It is a type of land use rotation, and refers to a method of using cultivated land periodically and systematically, in which rice is produced for several years as a paddy field, and then the land is turned into field, where pasture, vegetables, feed crops, industrial crops, and other field crops are cultivated for several years, and then the land is returned to paddy field. This changes the physical properties of the land, making it possible to control weeds and pests, and improving crop productivity.

「でんばたりんかん」ともいう。地目交替の一種で，一般に水田状態で水稲の生産を数年間継続してから，その跡地を畑地状態にし，数年間牧草，野菜，飼料作物，工芸作物などの畑作物を栽培して再び水田に還元するということを周期的，計画的に繰返す耕地の利用方式をいう。土地の理学的性質に変化が与えられ，雑草や病害虫を防除でき，作物の生産性を向上させることができる。
