intuition

Japanese: intuition
intuition

When Western thought was first introduced to Japan, the translation of intuition (English, French) was initially "direct intuition" (for example, Nishi Amane's "Psychology", 1875-79), but this was gradually replaced by "intuition" and has remained so to this day. Intuition comes from the Latin word intueri, which means "to gaze at" or sometimes "to meditate," and generally means direct knowledge, but the German word Anschauung is also composed of the prefix an, which indicates the approach or contact with something, and schauen, which means the intentional act of looking, and also means a similar state of knowledge.
