(1) A type of shamisen music. It is a school of Edo Joruri, characterized by dynamic melodies. The founder of the school was Osatsuma Shuzendayu I, who worked at Kabuki and played the accompaniment for rough plays, around the beginning of the Kyoho era. In January 1729, Osatsuma Shuzendayu I performed "Yanonegoro" for Ichikawa Danjuro II, and his popularity increased greatly. However, the school gradually declined, and after Shuzendayu III's death, there was no successor. In 1826, Osatsuma was absorbed into Nagauta. Since then, Osatsuma became a side job for Nagauta performers, and Nagauta came to be influenced by Osatsuma. The representative pieces are "Yanone," "Narukami," and "Fudo." Kineya Kangoro III organized the Osatsuma melodies into 48 ways, which he named "Osatsuma 48 Techniques." (2) Kabuki performance term: In the era of Kabuki theater, before the opening of the Danmari performance, a Nagauta singer and a shamisen player would stand outside the light yellow curtain and perform a dynamic performance. However, this performance has no relation to the original Osatsuma-bushi, since the melody is made using Osatsuma-no-te.
