A descendant of Fujiwara no Uona, they were a powerful clan in Adachi County, Mutsu Province. During Morinaga's reign, they first adopted the name Adachi and served Minamoto no Yoritomo. Their son Kagemori became Akita Jo-no-Kai, and his descendants inherited the position. Later, the daughter of his grandson Yasumori married Hojo Tokimune and gave birth to Sadatoki, so the clan wielded power as a maternal relative, but was attacked by Sadatoki in 1285 and destroyed.
