...The Ismailis became active from the end of the 9th century, but their main power moved to North Africa and established the Fatimid dynasty. After that, the Ismaili SulayṢulayḥ dynasty (1047-1138) strengthened its power in Yemen, defeating the Najāḥ dynasty (1021-1159) of Tihāmah on the Red Sea coast, and in 1063, they drove the Rassids to Sa'ada and established their capital in Sana'a. They also invaded the Hijaz for a time, but eventually moved their capital to Dhu-Jibla and lost control to the Zuray' dynasty (1138-74), also of the Ismaili sect. Salah al-Din, who established the Ayyubid dynasty, ordered his brother Turanshah to conquer Yemen, and the Ayyubid dynasty (1174-1229) was established with its capital in Taiz. ...
