Malus' theorem

...A collection of light rays that share a single orthogonal curved surface is generally called a ray bundle. The reason for considering ray bundles among various collections of light rays is because of Malus' theorem (proposed in 1808 by the Frenchman Etienne Louis Malus (1775-1812)), which states that "a group of light rays that pass perpendicularly through a curved surface will be perpendicular to another curved surface even after repeated reflection and refraction." This theorem also holds true for groups of light rays that pass through a material whose refractive index changes continuously.
