An administrative agency that is responsible for the country's fiscal and financial administration in a unified manner. Fiscal policy (i.e., the budget, tax system, government bond issuance, treasury fund management, and national asset management) and monetary policy (i.e., the administration of banking, insurance, and securities, as well as fiscal investment and loans and international finance) require close coordination and comprehensive policy management. Among Japan's administrative organizations, the FIEA is one of the administrative agencies with an important role in coordinating administration through finance.
[history]
In July 1869 (Meiji 2), the Meiji Restoration government renamed the national financial administration agency the Ministry of Finance.
