...After that, the number of mergers tended to decrease, but from around 1980, it started to increase again. Among the mergers after World War II, the ones that attracted the most attention were the large mergers around 1965-1970. These included the merger of Mitsubishi Miki Industries in 1964 (which formed Mitsubishi Heavy Industries), the merger of Osaka Shosen and Mitsui Shipping (which was an equal merger that formed Mitsui O.S.K. Lines), the merger of Kobe Steel and Amagasaki Steel in 1965 (which survived), the merger of Toyobo and Kureha Spinning in 1966 (which survived), the merger of Nissan Motor and Prince Motor in 1967 (which survived), and the merger of Yawata Steel and Fuji Steel in 1970 (which was an equal merger that formed Nippon Steel).
