...railroad vehicles used for clearing snow from tracks. There are the Russell snow-plow (Russell is the name of the inventor), which is equipped with a wedge-shaped snow-clearing plate at the front end of the car body and uses it to push snow to the left and right of the track, the rotary snow-plow (rotary snow-plow) which uses a rotor to throw snow far away, and the Mackley's snow-plow (Mackley is the name of the inventor) which cuts down the wall of snow at the edge of the track and supplies snow to the rotary snow-plow. Japan's National Railways (now JR) first used the Russell snow-plow, imported from the United States, in Hokkaido in 1911, and in 1923, the rotary snow-plow was also introduced from the United States.
