Year of death: March 3, 1860 (March 24, 1860) Year of birth: Tempo 9.12.28 (1839.2.11) A samurai of the Satsuma (Kagoshima) clan in the late Edo period and a patriot of the Sonn-joi movement. He was Nizaemon's third son, his eldest brother Kaieda Nobuyoshi and his second brother Yusuke. In 1858 (Ansei 5), he served as a page at the clan's Edo residence, and in January 1860 (Man'en 1), just after the end of the Ansei Purge, he planned to assassinate Mito ronin and Ii Naosuke with his older brother Yusuke. On March 3 of the same year, he carried out the plan outside Sakuradamon Gate, but as he was leaving after taking Naosuke's head, he was stabbed by an Ii clan retainer and committed suicide. His last words were, "The rocks are broken to their very roots, like a sword for the sake of the samurai's country." Upon hearing the news that the attack was successful, Yusuke escaped Edo with Mito ronin Kaneko Sonjiro and others to Kyoto to further their plans, but was captured in Yokkaichi and escorted to Kagoshima, where he committed suicide by order of the clan.
