A town in Kodama County, northwest of Saitama Prefecture, bordering Gunma Prefecture. It was incorporated as a town in 1987. It occupies an alluvial fan on the south bank of the Kanna River, and its southern part is hilly land that continues from the Chichibu Mountains. Haniwa clay figurines and mirrors have been excavated from the Aoyagi Tomb, and the remains of the Aho clan residence of the Tanto clan, one of the seven clans of medieval Musashi, are located in the Moto-Abo area. In addition to rice and wheat, persimmons and pears are cultivated. There is an industrial park that produces industrial products such as electrical machinery and steel. It is home to Kanasana Shrine and Mitake Kagamiiwa (a special natural monument). The Hachiko Line runs through the town. 埼玉県北西部,群馬県と接する児玉郡の町。1987年町制。神流(かんな)川南岸の扇状地を占め南部は秩父山地から続く丘陵地。青柳古墳から埴輪・鏡などが出土し,元阿保地区には中世武蔵七党の一つ丹(たん)党の阿保氏館跡がある。米・麦のほか花卉(かき)やナシの栽培が盛ん。工業団地があり,電気機械,鉄鋼などの工業製品を産する。金鑽(かなさな)神社や御岳(みたけ)の鏡岩(特別天然記念物)がある。八高線が通じる。2006年1月児玉郡神泉村を編入。47.40km2。1万4470人(2010)。
