Endopeptidase

A general term for enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of peptide bonds in the middle of a polypeptide chain to produce two or more peptides. They are widely distributed in animal and plant cells, and together with exopeptidases, they play an important role in the digestion of proteins.

ポリペプチド鎖の中間に存在するペプチド結合を加水分解し，2本以上のペプチドを生じる反応を触媒する酵素の総称．動物，植物細胞中に広く分布し，エキソペプチダーゼとともにタンパク質の消化に重要な役割を果たす．
