Enterovirus - Enterovirus

It is an RNA (ribonucleic acid) virus that belongs to the Picornaviridae family. It includes polioviruses (types 1-3), Coxsackie A viruses (types 1-24), Coxsackie B viruses (types 1-6), echoviruses (types 1-34), and other enteroviruses (types 68-72). Enteroviruses refer to the intestines, and many of them are enterotropic viruses.

Enteroviruses have a single strand of RNA, and the virus particles are icosahedral, 20-30 nanometers in diameter (1 nanometer is one billionth of a meter), have 32 capsomeres (the structural unit of the capsid), and are not enveloped. The genome functions as mRNA (messenger RNA) in the cytoplasm of infected cells.

The classification of enteroviruses is not yet complete, leaving problems for the future. The current situation is changing, with several species that were called echoviruses moving to other groups, and other groups moving to echoviruses. Newly discovered enteroviruses are numbered consecutively, and hepatitis A virus is numbered enterovirus type 72, since it is the 72nd virus counting from poliovirus type 1. Diseases caused by specific serotype viruses include hand, foot and mouth disease (Coxsackie A virus type 16), epidemic myalgia (Coxsackie B virus types 1-6), myocarditis (Coxsackie B virus types 1-5), and acute hemorrhagic hemangiitis (Enterovirus type 70).

RNA（リボ核酸）ウイルスでピコルナウイルス科に属す。ポリオウイルス（1～3型）、コクサッキーA群ウイルス（1～24型）、コクサッキーB群ウイルス（1～6型）、エコーウイルス（1～34型）、その他のエンテロウイルス（68～72型）などが含まれる。エンテロenteroとは腸を意味し、腸管親和性のウイルスが多く含まれる。

　エンテロウイルスは1本鎖のRNAをもち、ウイルス粒子は正二十面体、直径20～30ナノメートル（1ナノメートルは10億分の1メートル）、カプソメア（カプシドの構造単位）数32で、エンベロープ（外被）はない。ゲノムは感染細胞の細胞質のなかでmRNA（メッセンジャーRNA）として働く。

　エンテロウイルスの分類は成熟度が低く、問題点を将来に残している。エコーウイルスといわれた数種が他の群に移行し、また、他の群からエコーウイルスへ移行されるなど変わりつつある現状である。新しく発見されたエンテロウイルスは通し番号をつけることになっており、A型肝炎ウイルスはポリオウイルス1型から数えて72番目のためエンテロウイルス72型とされている。特定の血清型ウイルスによっておこる疾患としては、手足口病（コクサッキーA群ウイルス16型）、流行性筋痛炎（コクサッキーB群ウイルス1～6型）、心筋炎（コクサッキーB群ウイルス1～5型）、急性出血性血膜炎（エンテロウイルス70型）がある。
