Yen Taxi - Entaku

Abbreviation for 1 Yen Taxi. It is a taxi fare system where the taxi fare is a flat rate of 1 yen no matter where you go within the city. It started in Osaka in 1924 (Taisho 13), spread to Tokyo in 1926, and then nationwide. Due to the increase in the number of vehicles and the economic downturn, discounts of 50 sen or 30 sen were available upon negotiation. Furthermore, from around 1937 (Showa 12), a distance-based meter was adopted, and although the period of the flat rate of 1 yen was actually short, the name Yen Taku remained as a common name for taxis for some time afterwards.

1円タクシーの略。市内どこまで行っても1円均一というタクシー料金システムで、1924年（大正13）に大阪で始まり、26年には東京、ついで全国に広まった。台数の増加や不景気のため、交渉しだいで50銭、30銭と割引もされた。さらに37年（昭和12）ごろからは距離制メーターが採用され、実際には1円均一の期間は短かったが、円タクの名は、その後もしばらくタクシーの通称として残った。
