William I - William
A Dutch nobleman and Prince of Orange. A leader in the independence of the Dutch Republic. He was from the House of Nassau, the most prestigious Dutch noble family, and inherited the House of Orange-Nassau in 1544. He served as governor of the provinces of Holland, Utrecht, and Zeeland, but in 1568 he rebelled against Spanish rule and started the Eighty Years' War in cooperation with the Beggars' Order. In 1581 he became the leader of the Dutch Republic and struggled to repel the Spanish army, but was assassinated midway through the battle. He is also known as William the Silent.

King of the Netherlands (reigned 1815-1840), Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Prince of Orange-Nassau. Also known as Willem Frederik. Son of Willem V, Governor-General of the Dutch Republic. He became King of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which included Belgium and Luxembourg, which was created at the Congress of Vienna. The 1830 revolution led to the separation of Belgium, and people's dissatisfaction with this grew, leading to his abdication in 1840.

オランダの貴族でオラニエ公。オランダ共和国独立の主導者。オランダ貴族随一の名門ナッサウ家の出身で1544年にはオラニエ=ナッサウ家を継承。ホラント,ユトレヒト,ゼーラント州の総督を務めたが,スペイン支配に反対して1568年蜂起,〈乞食団〉と協力して八十年戦争を開始した。1581年オランダ共和国の指導者となり,スペイン軍撃退に苦心したが,戦い半ばで暗殺された。ウィレム寡黙公とも呼ばれる。

オランダ国王(在位1815年―1840年),ルクセンブルク大公,オラニエ=ナッサウ公。ウィレム・フレデリクとも。オランダ共和国総督ウィレム5世の子。ウィーン会議で誕生したベルギー,ルクセンブルクを含むオランダ王国の国王となる。1830年の革命によってベルギーが分離し,これに対する国民の不満が高まり1840年退位。
