…Film production in Poland began in 1902 when a young engineer named Kazimierz Proszynski spent three years designing a camera he called the Pleograph, and began making short feature films. However, Poland was economically poor and politically subordinate at the time, and was unable to compete with foreign films, including those from France's Pathé film company, so film production developed slowly. …
