This is one of the ancient Roman ruins in Merida, the capital of Extremadura, a city located on the north bank of the Guadiana River in central-western Spain. Built in the 1st century BC as an arena adjacent to an open-air theater, it was a huge facility with a capacity of about 14,000 people.
