Glinka

Japanese: グリンカ
Glinka
Russian composer. Known as the father of Russian national music. In the early 19th century, Russian music was influenced by Germany and Italy, but he advocated the creation of music based on ethnic foundations, and had a profound influence on Dargomuizhsky, the Russian national school, and Tchaikovsky. Born into a wealthy aristocratic family in Novospasskoye, Smolensk Province, he was familiar with peasant folk songs from an early age, while also learning the piano and violin. He studied at a boarding school attached to the Normal School in St. Petersburg, where he interacted with Pushkin and others. From 1830 to 1834, he studied music in various parts of Italy and in Berlin. After returning home in 1836, he achieved great success with his first opera, Ivan Susanin (A Life for the Tsar), and in 1942 premiered his second opera, Ruslan and Lyudmila, based on Pushkin's epic poem. He laid the foundations for modern Russian music. Other well-known works include "Kamarinskaya" (1848) based on Russian folk songs, and "Spanish Overture" Nos. 1 and 2 (1845, 1851) based on Spanish folk songs, as well as orchestral, chamber and song works. → Balakirev / Bellini / Rimsky-Korsakov → Related articles Prince Igor | Hota
