Blue moss - Blue moss

A perennial plant of the Convolvulaceae family (APG classification: Convolvulaceae). The stems grow in clusters on the ground, and the leaves are small and kidney-shaped. From April to August, small yellow flowers bloom one at a time in the leaf axils. The corolla is broad-bell-shaped with five lobes. The fruit consists of two rounded segments, and the calyx and calyx are hairy. It grows on roadsides and around houses in hilly areas, growing in the Kanto region and west of Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Okinawa, and is widely distributed in the subtropics and tropics of the world. The Japanese name comes from the fact that the leaves resemble those of Futaba Aoi and are short like moss. The genus Aoigoke has thin, creeping stems and small flowers. There are 14 species in the world, and all but Aoigoke are distributed in the tropics and subtropics of America.

ヒルガオ科（APG分類：ヒルガオ科）の多年草。茎は地表をはって群がり、葉は小さく腎臓(じんぞう)形。4～8月黄色い小さな花が葉腋(ようえき)に1個ずつ開く。花冠は広鐘形で5裂する。果実は丸い2個の分果からなり、萼(がく)とともに毛がある。丘陵帯の道端や家の周りに生え、本州の関東地方以西、四国、九州、沖縄に生育し、世界の亜熱帯から熱帯にかけて広く分布する。和名は、葉がフタバアオイに似ており、コケのように丈が低いことによる。アオイゴケ属は茎は細く地をはい、花は小形。世界に14種あり、アオイゴケ以外はアメリカの熱帯から亜熱帯にかけて分布する。
