The name may have been derived from the Azekura-zukuri style storehouse, or the morning seat for welcoming the gods. [2] The location of the temporary palace (angu) built by Empress Saimei during her Western Expedition. The location is said to be present-day Sugawa or Yamada in Asakura-cho, Asakura County, Fukuoka Prefecture. The song was included in a Kagura song, and the title of the song was often used as the subject of waka poetry. *Kagura song (late 9th century) Myojo: "If I am in Asakura-kura and in the wooden hall, I will be there." *Sarashina (around 1059): "Asakura, now I hear what I hear in Kumoi, but the wooden hall still speaks its name."
