Gabriel, Ange-Jacques

Japanese: ガブリエル(英語表記)Gabriel, Ange-Jacques
Gabriel, Ange-Jacques
Born: October 23, 1698 in Paris
[Died] January 4, 1782. A member of a family of French architects in Paris. He succeeded his father Gabriel (Jacques V, 1667-1742) as royal architect. Inspired by ancient and English architecture, especially the Palladian style, he broke away from the Rococo style and promoted the French classical tradition, becoming a pioneer of neoclassical architecture. His most accomplished work was the Petit Trianon (1762-64) at the Palace of Versailles, which he created for Louis XV, and its symmetry and elegance are unmatched. He also worked on monumental projects such as the development of the Place de la Concorde in Paris (1753-54).
