Mount Arakawa - Mount Arakawa

Japanese:
Mount Arakawa - Mount Arakawa

A high peak in the southern Akaishi Mountains, which forms the border between Nagano and Shizuoka Prefectures. The highest point is Higashidake (Waruzawadake), located on the Shizuoka side and the sixth highest in Japan, at 3,141 meters. The mountain is mainly made of sandstone, with shale and tuff mixed in. The west side of the summit is the source of the Koshibugawa River, a tributary of the Tenryu River, and is a huge landslide area. The summit is divided into several peaks from west to east: Maedake (3,068 meters), Nakadake (3,084 meters), and Higashidake. There is also a topography that appears to be a cirque on the north side of the summit. Rare alpine plants such as Himenosenburi, Okuyamarindou, and Chonosukesou can be found near the summit. The climbing course starts from Sawarajima, the same as for climbing Mt. Akaishi, and generally starts from Mt. Senmai in the east, goes around to the west, hikes to Mt. Higashidake, Mt. Nakadake, and Mt. Maedake, and returns to Sawarajima via Mt. Akaishi. It takes 3 days and 2 nights.
