British poet and playwright. While working for an insurance company in Birmingham, he met theatre company owner B. Jackson and others, and together they started an amateur theatre company, eventually founding the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. He created and performed historical plays based on historical figures, such as "Abraham Lincoln" (1918), "Mary Stuart" (1921), "Oliver Cromwell" (1921), "Robert E. Lee" (1923), and "Robert Burns" (1925). As a poet, he was one of the Georgian school, which emphasized lyricism.
