A corporation's profit dividends are incorporated into capital rather than paid in cash, and new shares are issued and distributed to shareholders. This is also called stock dividends for short. The advantage is that the company can retain cash within the company. This system was abolished as an independent system with the revision of the Commercial Code in 1990, but under current law the same legal effect can be achieved by stock splits and incorporating distributable profits into capital (Article 450 of the Companies Act), or by allocating shares free of charge (Article 185).
