"Jeude la feuillée" (English: "Jeude la feuillée")

...The carnival-like anti-world of the fool's play and the satirical comedic nature of the farce, along with the influence of Italian and Spanish comedies, formed the undercurrent of 17th-century comedy (such as "The Washing Tub" and "Mr. Pierre Patrin", which were adapted by Iizawa Tadashi in Japan as the Kyogen play "The Washing River"). In addition, in a somewhat different lineage from these, there is Adam de la Halle's 13th-century "Jeu de la feuillée", whose pastoral fantasy became one of the origins of opera and pastoral drama from the 17th century onwards.

However, most of these medieval plays did not survive into the 17th century, due to the religious wars of the late 16th century.
