...Various theories that emphasized only one aspect of Origen's theology were called Origenism, and were condemned as heresies in the ancient and medieval churches. In the second half of the 4th century, Epiphanius, Bishop of Salamis, labeled Origen a heretic, and Jerome joined in, resulting in the persecution of Egyptian monks who followed Origen. In the mid-6th century, Origenism at the monastery of St. Sabbath in Palestine became a problem.
