An American deep-sea drilling ship. Launched in March 1967. It is 122 meters long, with a 61-meter-high drilling derrick in the center. It has a displacement of 11,000 tons. It can drill about 6,000 meters deep into the ocean floor. To achieve this, it is equipped with a system that receives sonar waves from the ocean floor and operates four side thrusters and a main screw to keep the ship in a constant position, as well as a system that pulls up the tip of the drill and then inserts it back into the same hole. It was built with funding from the National Science Foundation for the JOIDES project, and was used in the international cooperative project IPOD.

アメリカの深海掘削船。1967年3月進水。長さ122m，中央部に高さ61mの掘削用やぐらをもつ。排水量1万1000トン。約6000mの海底を掘削できる。このため，海底においたソナーの音波を受け，4個のサイドスラスターとメインスクリューを操作し船の位置を一定に保つ装置と，ドリルの先をいったん引き上げ，ふたたび同じ孔に入れる装置をもつ。JOIDES（ジヨイデス）計画のためにアメリカ科学財団の基金で建造され，国際協同計画IPOD（アイポツド）で使用された。
