Caird, Edward
Born 23 March 1835, Greenock
[Died] November 1, 1908. British philosopher from Oxford. Leader of the Neo-Hegelian school. Studied at Glasgow University and Oxford University, and was a professor at Glasgow University in 1866, and dean of Balliol College, Oxford from 1893 to 1907. Influenced by Kant and Hegel, he took an idealist stance and opposed the empiricism of D. Hume and JS Mill. His main works are "A Critical Account of the Philosophy of Kant" (1877), "Hegel" (83), "The Evolution of Religion" (2 volumes, 93), and "The Evolution of Theology in the Greek Philosophers" (2 volumes, 1904).
