Pfeiffer, Tokuichi Tsumaki and others synthesized it and reported that it changed color to a dark brown in air, and in 1938, Tsumaki discovered that this color change was due to oxygen absorption. Its properties as an oxygen carrier were subsequently studied in detail by M. Calvin and H. Diehl. It can be produced by adding a freshly prepared aqueous solution of cobalt acetate(II) to an ethyl alcohol solution of ethylenediamine, heating it, and adding salicylaldehyde. ...
