…During the Edo period, feudal lords and wealthy merchants from various provinces were interested in decorative stationery, and Chinese ink imported through Nagasaki was highly valued among them. Meanwhile, Nara flourished as a producer of Japanese ink, and Fujishiro (old name Fujishiro) in Kii and Toshuen in Owari also produced exquisite ink, which is appreciated today as Edo koboku. Books on ink published include Kobaien Bokudan, Kobaien Bokufu, and Daibokukotsushu by Matsui Motoyasu, the sixth head of Kobaien in Nara, and Keikaen Bokufu by Fujiwara Morimi. …
