Grus (the Crane) - Grus

Japanese: つる座(鶴座) - つるざ（英語表記）Grus

Abbreviation: Gru. A small constellation seen low in the southern sky in late autumn. It is one of the twelve southern constellations newly established by German astronomer J. Bayer in the 17th century. It lies further south of Piscis Austrinus, and consists of two second magnitude stars, α and β, that can be seen side by side. In the 15th century, Spanish navigators called it Flamingo, but Bayer renamed it Crane. Its approximate position is 22h20m in right ascension and -47° in declination. It reaches its highest point in the sky at 8pm in late October. [Ishida Goro]
