Menderes River (English spelling)

Japanese: メンデレス[川]（英語表記）Menderes

A river in southwestern Turkey, flowing west from the mountains of the Anatolian Plateau and emptying into the Aegean Sea south of the island of Samos. Its ancient name was Maiandros. Its total length is 584 km. It is also called the Great Menderes River (Büyük Menderes). The Menderes River (left), the Menderes River (right), and the Cine River are its main tributaries. The basin has been irrigated (about 100,000 ha) and has a Mediterranean climate, producing grains, cotton, tobacco, figs, etc., making it one of Turkey's leading agricultural regions. The river that flows parallel to it on the north, separated by the mountains, is called the Little Menderes River (Kücük Menderes).

トルコ南西部，アナトリア高原の山地から西に流れてサモス島の南でエーゲ海に注ぐ川。古名マイアンドロスMaiandros。全長584km。大メンデレス川Büyük Menderesとも呼ばれる。左メンデレス川，右メンデレス川，チーネ川はそのおもな支流。流域は灌漑化(約10万ha)が進み，また地中海式気候に属するため穀物，綿花，タバコ，イチジクなどを産し，トルコで有数の農業地帯を形成する。また山地を隔てて北を平行して流れる川を小メンデレス川Kücük Menderesと呼ぶ。
