Born in 1777. Studied under Minagawa Kien and Murase Koutei. A priest at Sakamoto Hiyoshi Shrine in Omi (Shiga Prefecture). In 1818, he handed over his position to his younger brother Maretura and opened a school in Kyoto. He was known as a poet. He passed away on February 17, 1858, at the age of 82. His given name was Kisei. His pen names were Encho and Koto. He was commonly known as Kageyu. His alternate surname was Koto. His alternate names were Kaiken and Mugen.
