...A sect of Zen Buddhism that spread in China at the end of the Tang Dynasty, mainly in Nanchang (Jiangxi Province) in Jiangnan. It is known as the Five Schools along with Rinzai, Soto, Unmon, and Hogen. It was named after the training hall of Reiyu (771-853), who lived in Huishan, Tanzhou, Hunan, and his disciple Ejiyaku (807-883), who later lived in Yangshan, Yuanzhou. Reiyu was the disciple of Baizhang, who was the disciple of Mazu, so the Huizhang sect began with Mazu. ...
