...This work is set mainly on a showboat traveling up and down the Mississippi River and depicts the romance between the daughter of a troupe's boss and a drifting gambler. At the same time, it also deals with the story of a star actress in a troupe who becomes unhappy because of racial discrimination, and it was a groundbreaking work in that many black people appear and each number is closely connected to the plot. The main composers who appeared slightly later than Kahn and were active before and after World War II were I. Berlin, G. Gershwin, K. Weill, C. Porter, and R. Rogers. Berlin also wrote lyrics, and initially worked mainly in revues, producing countless hit songs, but he also made a great achievement in full-scale musicals with his work Annie Get Your Gun (1946), which is full of wildness and vitality and features a girl who is skilled at shooting. ...
