Teredinidae

...They are widely distributed along the continental coasts from Sakhalin to Kyushu, and from Siberia to China, and are often found in inland bays and other waters with slightly lower salinity. Twenty species of the Teredinidae family have been recorded in Japan. The eight-legged shipworm Lyrodus pedicellatus is also common in Japan, and half of the tip of its tail plug is covered with black-brown skin.
