A bird of the Aves class, order Passeriformes, family Ecranidae. There is one family, one genus, and one species. Some scholars consider it to be a species of the Tyrannidae family. It is also sometimes called the spiky-legged hawk. It is about 17 cm long, has olive-colored plumage overall, and has conspicuous crimson feathers on its head. Its beak is straight and sharply pointed like the tip of an awl. It lives in the tropical forests from Costa Rica to Paraguay. Its ecology is not well understood, but it does not live in flocks, and is thought to feed mainly on nuts.
